I have a XJR1200 1997. I know that it's 1300 territory but we share the same issues for early years sadly. English not being my forte, please bear with me while I try to explain what I believe to be an electrical problem.
So, I recently had to change the OEM ignition switch on my motorcycle.
The new one had 4 cables instead of 6 on the OG one. Lots of problems started to appear but the most striking one is the following: if the bike is cold, it works like a charm. When it gets hot, I get misfire and a loss of power, it last 2 - 5 minutes and finally turn off by itself, not responding to revs or anything. If I let it rest for 2 - 3 minutes, it starts again and I can drive it a bit till it repeat the same pattern: progressive loss of power, impossible to idle and shut off.
So I did the following. I took of the ignition off the circuit and made direct connections. At this point the bike has 3 direct bridges on the 6 cables. Same issue.
I checked all sparks and fuses, I checked if the tank was "breathing", all fine. The thing that is pretty weird is the heat factor. If cold = Fine. If hot = Progressive loss and shut off. But can restart and ride a bit after 2 or 3 minutes.
Anyone had this issue?
Thank you in advance!
