Help needed ,i have had a big fuel leakage problem didnt notice it for a week or two ( started running rough and stinking of petrol) so have taken carbs off and a friend is servicing them for me ,i have put new plugs in ,a new air filter cause the last one was ruined with fuel in airbox,,i have done a pet cock repair new diaphram ,washers etc.So while waiting for carbs i took oil filler cap off and it smells of petrol.

So i am going to do an oil/filter change ,should i flush ( if poss) the crankcase with something ( if so what ) before filling back up with new oil .

Any help would be great.

I had this problem for some time. Tried repair on the fuel tap but it didn't fix the issue. I had to change the fuel tap. I got a Pingel manual tap with an "Off" position. The other part of the issue was the float valves in the carbs. I replaced them with a new set of Wemoto valves and they still leaked so I got a set of genuine Yamaha ones and not had the issue for several years.

I would just let the oil drain fully. I would be worried using a flush would contaminate the clutch but not sure if that would be the case. You could run it with new oil and filter for a few hundred miles and change them again if you are worried.
